red mail Edward R. Hughes, b. 1845 Wales
My g Grandfather Hughes became a naturalized US citizen in 1869. No recores show where in Wales he was born but I have an old phamphlet "LLandudno & Disitrict. Beautiful North Wales" 16 Monster Views In Colour Photography. Probably from the 1890's - no motor cars, women in long dresses, Marine Drive completed, streetcar. The family story is that he was from a prominent family and when he was young he had some difficulties in Wales so his family sent him to the US. He bought a farm in Venedocia, Van Wert Co., Ohio, USA and married Mary E. Evans of Delaware Co., Ohio who's father was from Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, Wales. Venedocia was an American Welsh colony founded to keep the Welsh ideals and culture alive. My grandmother, Harriet (1876) grew up speaking Welsh.

red mail Powell. Llandudno
My ancestor Daniel Powell b about 1904 lived in Llandudno for most of his life dying 11 Mar 1874. He married Ann Williams of Holywell Flintshire in about 1829. According to records that I have so far found he had 9 children - all born in Llandudno as follows. Catherine b 1830 Margaret b 1830 (twins?) Elizabeth b 1832 Richard b 1835 Griffith b 1838 Sarah b 1840 John b 1844 Daniel b 1847 Jane b 1850. I have full information on Sarah as she is my direct ancester. However I would like to hear from anyone who is descended from the other children or has knowledge of them. Daniel and Ann are buried at St Tudno's church where there is a headstone to their memory. The family is also mentioned in a book by Christopher Draper published 2007 called Llandudno before the Hotels. If anyone would like to buy a copy I can give the name of the publishers together with the ISBN if you would care to contact me.

red mail Hughes, Cecil Alfred
Any information about Cecil Alfred Hughes, born in Llandudno in 1900 would be greatly appreciated. Cecil lived in Llandudno until 1920 at which time he immigrated to Canada with his Scottish bride Margaret. Cecil and Margaret had three children, David, Joseph and Vera. Cecil had polio as a child and walked with a slight limp. It is possible he was an orphan who was adopted. He had at least one sister.
