Thomas, aged 40, Margaret aged 74 (both born Perthshire), George aged 9, Harriet aged 5 (both born Dumfriessshire) and James F. aged 3 (born Haddington). They later moved to Dorset where Margaret Rose, Tom F., and Donald were all born. James, Tom and Donald were all killed during WW1.

red mail Donald MacGregor
I am tracing Donald MACGREGOR who was a sherriff officer in Haddington mid-1800's. His birth date is 1793 and seems to be related to me through Agnes REYNOLDS. He may have married Cathrine or Katherine Burnside and Helen BLACK. I have another reference to a Donald MACGREGOR or marrying Catherine CAMPBELL and emigrating to Canada but can't be sure if this is the same person. His fame in Haddington was to be appointed as a piper for which he was very proficient. I would love to know any information about Donald MACGREGOR. Of particular interest is to see if he can be traced back to Rob Roy MACGREGOR. Many thanks in anticipation of any help you can give!

red mail Hardie, Husband and Gibson
I am researching the Hardie family. My great grandfather William Francis Hardie arrived at Amisfield Park from Aberdeenshire sometime before 1861. He was foreman gardener at Amisfield Park. He married Elizabeth Robertson from Meigle, Perthshire in 1866. They had four children but only one, Jane Wight Hardie, survived infancy. Elizabeth died in August 1872. By then William had moved to Holm House, Haddington where he was again a gardener. He remarried Elizabeth Stirling in 1874. Her family had been in Prestonkirk for many years and she worked as a milliner in Haddington before her marriage. They had five children before moving to Edinburgh in 1880. The third child, my grandfather, Francis William Hardie then married Margaret Lindsay Husband in 1908. Her father George Husband had arrived in Haddington from Cupar, Fife sometime before 1878. He married Agnes Gibson also from Fife in Haddington in 1878 and established a saddlery business with a shop in Haddington High Street which lasted until his death in 1928. Agnes died in 1933. Both are buried in St Mary's Churchyard, Haddington as are Margaret Lindsay and Francis William Hardie. I would love to find any more background to add colour to my ancestors life stories in Haddington especially anything about the children's education, probably at the Knox Institute in Haddington.
