red mail O'Mara in Cardiff
My 2nd great grandfather Michael O'Mara married Catherine Sullivan in St. David's Roman Catholic Church in Cardiff on December 6, 1856. I believe James was born in Ireland around 1830, Catherine was also born in Ireland in 1835. The marriage license says they lived at 3 Whitemore Lane in Cardiff. They had a son James who I believe died in childhood. James was born in 1857. Would anyone have any idea where he might be buried? I'm trying to track the family back to Ireland. Michael's father was also named James but he was deceased by the time of the wedding in 1856. Michael and Catherine had two other children in Wales, Mary, born in 1858, and John in 1860. Another child, David, was born in America. I cannot find evidence that Mary was born in Wales. U.S. census for 1870, 1900, 1910 say she was born in Wales but I cannot find verification from a Welsh document. I am descended from John. Sometime between 1860 and 1870 the family moved to Plymouth, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. I believe Michael O'Mara is in the 1861 Wales census living in Merthyr Tydfill, here the name is misspelled as Marrah. I would like to learn as much as possible about the Irish in Cardiff. Any help appreciated. Thank you - Joe
