PATRICK JAMES McKIE  Mar 2006 (76350)
Married Louisa Stapleton 1905. He was my grandfather born in 1872 and died in 1942 whilst fire watching duty during air raid on Millwall docks. He was found dead the following morning on his hands and knees on a staircase in the Mangunese Bronze Factory where he worked, belived of a heart attck. His family consisted of nine children (my aunts and uncles) my mother being the third in line. Margret, James, Louise, Cecelia, Frances, Ethel, Joesph, Rose and Michael. I was told that he originally came from the Isle of Skye, where he was a fisherman on deep sea trawlers. He moved south to Newcastle with the trawler fleet before moving onto Grimsby where he was a trawler skipper. He was seconded into the Royal Navy during WW1 serving on submarines. My mother was born in Grimsby in 1914 (they lived in Flower St) before the family moved to Poplar London E.14. Strangely my earlier cursory seach of the local records in Grimsby failed to find any entry of a McKie family, this may well have been because they lived there between the 1901 a 1911 censor records, also my trawlermen where often away from home and thus not recorded as living at an address. My grandmother came from the area originally her family I believe lived in Bow. The family lived in Prestiege Buildings, Limehouse, just off West Ferry Rd. I have a small photo of granddad McKie in naval uniform, he died a year after I was born so I don't remember him myself. My grandmother died around 1970 whilst still living in Prestiege Buildings which has since been redeveloped. To my knowledge all my aunts and uncles are now deceased, my mother died in 1990 in Maidstone Hospital after a stroke. I have many cousins apparently but other than hearsay stories I know little about granddad McKie so if you have information I would appreciate your sharing it with me. I hope this is of interest, Ken.

Harold Turton Dodman  Apr 2005 (52775)
I am very keen to contact family or friends of this gentlemen. He died in Newcastle in 1989. He was born in Rochdale in 1898 and his life between is a mystery. He had a sister Mary Emma Turton Dodman bn 1899 who has disappeared after 1901. Harold is a great great uncle of my husbands, and his mother had 4 more daughters after Harold and it is possible that the two branches of the family know nothing about each other. There is another mystery concerning a boy who went to Canada in 1910 apparently with the same identity. I have been following this trail for a couple of years now. Alison
