red mail Garra/Gara/Higgins
If anyone can help with info on the following people I would be very grateful. John Garra/Gara(c1838) married Maria/Mary Higgins(c1838) in Ireland possibly between 1857 & 1860. Their son Patsey/Patrick was born in 1860. They moved to England sometime after that because their daughter Catherine was born 1894 in England. On all the English census entries Maria's birthplace is given as Sligo, Ireland. Whether it means the County or the town I don't know. John and Patsey's birthplace is given as Ireland. So far I have been unable to find a marriage entry for John and Maria. Can anyone help? My thanks in advance.

red mail Henry Patrick or Peter
I have an ancestor, Peter Henry dob 11 Mar 1844, who was living in Liverpool in 1876. He was a Boot Top Cutter/Boot closer. He may have been called Patrick Henry and moved to the Gorbals in Glasgow pre 1851. Father was John Henry, shoemaker. Patrick's siblings were Mary Ann (1835), Winifred (1837), Catherine (1839), John (1841) all born in Ireland. I am quite certain that Peter Henry and Patrick Henry are the same person-from DNA links. Patrick was also a Boot closer. The Scotland census only gives Ireland whereas the Liverpool census gives Sligo. Is there any way I can prove that Peter and Patrick are the same person?

red mail FINNERTY
Looking for FINNERTY - my grandmother Mary Theresa Finnerty was born in County Sligo in 1895 - moved to London as a very young girl to work as a maid.. We have no record of her family but do believe that she is from this County. The family story is that she lost touch with her Irish family - there were 2 other daughters both of whom emigrated to the USA leaving the youngest sister behind.

red mail HIGGINS - Sligo
My 3 X greatgrandmother was born Ann Higgins in Sligo (not sure whether that is the town or the county) in approximately 1789. In 1810/11 she married Thomas Robinson of Kendal, Westmorland, England. Their son John was born c.1812. Sometime after that they must have returned to Kendal as the rest of their family was born there. Any help in locating Ann's parents and finding her birth/baptism date would be greatly appreciated. Thank you - Jay

red mail Shaw, Henry, Glennie and Kerr families - Carrowlustia, Calry
I am starting to research my grandmother’s ancestry in County Sligo and would welcome any assistance. Her mother was Sarah SHAW, born 1885 in Sligo. Sarah’s parents were Samuel SHAW (born c1855, and died before 1901 in Calry) and Mary GLENNIE (born c1845, died c1920 in Calry) who married c1885. Samuel and Mary had 8 children, William (c1875 – c1940), James (c1878), John (c1880), Sarah (1885), Mary (c1885), Thomas (c1885), Samuel (c1888 – c1940), and Robert (c1889). On the 1901 census Mary, described as a widow, is living in Carrowlustia, Calry with her children. My grandmother’s father was John HENRY who was born in 1876 in Sligo, and whose parents were James HENRY, born c1856 and died before 1901, and Margaret KERR who was born c1847 and died c1930 in Calry. John and Margaret had 3 sons, John (1876), Samuel (c1878) and William (c1881). On the 1901 census Margaret, described as a widow, is living in Carrowlustia, Calry with her 3 sons. I am told, but bearing in mind this story has come via possibly biased parties, that John HENRY, being the eldest son, was expected to inherit the family farm, but that his younger brother had TB and wouldn’t have been able to make a living in the outside world, so the farm went to the younger boy. What I do know is that John emigrated via Liverpool where in 1906 he married Sarah who was also from Sligo (but I don’t know if they left Ireland together or met in Liverpool) and they had a daughter there in 1910, then 2 more daughters in New Stevenston by Motherwell in 1918 and 1920. Any assistance with this side of my family would be very welcome, and although my research is at an early stage, I’ll happily share what I have.

Looking for details for Ellen Mourne born c1833 County Sligo. Parents Patrick Mourne, engineer & Ellen Finney. Ellen Mourne married Adam Moncrieff at Ballarat, Victoria in 1856. Have hit a wall with the Mourne name and would appreciate any leads.
Researching the above surnames from around the Ballisodare, Achonry areas of Sligo - only have information from the early 1800's up until 1874 when Patrick MCLOUGHLIN born 1846 Sligo and his wife Ann or Anna COEN (various spellings) plus two of theirchildren Bridget born 1870 Sligo and Catherine born 1874 Sligo moved away to Warrington in Lancashire.
