Ireland, Country
This page is for entries which apply to the whole of Ireland, eg general information on Ireland , one name studies covering the whole of Ireland, and enquiries when you have no idea which part of Ireland your surnames came from.

Surnames in Ireland, like England, do tend to be strong in certain areas. First names are sometimes claimed to have regional patterns as well. It's worth checking Familysearch provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for clues.
Also see Some Surname Distribution Patterns.

Further contributions on the topic welcome.

Dulen, Dolan, Doolan family
Am trying to find out more about Dolan/Dulen family (although records use a number of variant spellings). Mary was born 1818 and baptised at St Patrick's Church in Soho. Her parents were Michael Dolan and Margaret nee Flanagan and were both born in Ireland but no information as to where. They were married at St Giles in the Fields Church in London, in 1807. I have also found two other children, John born 1810 and Margaret born 1816, both in Soho. Mary married William Bennett in 1843 at St Pancras Church.

red mail GREY/GRAY
I am looking for a birth/residence of my great grandfather, James GREY, who was born in Ireland in 1848 to 1852 (it varies considerably) but I have no idea where. His mother was Ann and she died in Glamorgan, Wales in 1888. James died in Glamorgan, Wales in 1913. I have no information about him before his marriage to Alice CHADWICK nee RICHARDS in 1878 in Wales. I would appreciate any help as I would love to find his birth, place of birth and when he moved to Wales. This has been my brick wall for many years so any help would be very much appreciated. Jenny

Commander Ralph GORE R.N. 1751 - 1858
According to Walker's Hibernian Magazine Lt. Ralph Gore R.N. married Frances Hay in May 1808 in Cl(o)yne, County Cork. I suspect the marriage record is held in the National Archives, Dublin folio M6083. They had two sons, William (b 1910) and Ralph (b abt. 1819). I think this latter Ralph married Rosina Dufaur in 1843, but am not 100% certain of this. I would like contact with anyone who is following Cmdr. Ralph Gore and his descendants NB. The Kentish Gazette gives DoM as 18th April 1808.

Trying to find the birthplace of Robert Hastings b. 1798 somewhere in Ireland who married Cecilia (Celia) Collins in Ireland in or around 1820. He has a William b. c.1821 and Mary. both children moved to Scotland. Sadly no indication on any census gives the birth county of either child.
