red mail Bushby
I'm looking for Bushby descendents from Wigton Cumberland, my grandfather was Robert Bushby, illegitimate, mother was Sarah Ann Bushby born around 1890 in Wigton cumberland, Edit my grandfather could also have been known as Robert Bushby-Nicholson
red mail Mary Scates, soldier father.
Mary Scates was baptised in 1820, Nov 11, daughter of William & Ann, Abode Whinney Fell. William is listed as Soldier; Whinney Fell appears now as mainly moorland with a possible address at 54.910172,-2.668307, from I have not found a local marriage between William & Ann but as soldiers needed permission this may not have happened. However a soldier could be militia, army or retired. Is there any information about military in this area at this time? Ann remarried in Feltham 1824 and in the 1851 census lists birth place as Winnifell, which suggests she met William in Cumberland. From information at death in 1857 (GRO age of 64) a birth date of c. 1793. Any suggestions welcome!
red mail Winnifell Cumberland
I have updated this entry and found 'Winnifell' Widow Ann SCATES in the 1851 census gives her place of birth as Cumberland Winnifell. Scates seems to be an E. Anglian name so she possibly moved south and married, or possibly married into the army. Her death record agrees with census and date of birth c.1793 Any suggestions as to location of 'Winnifell'? Peter Thanks for comments from several people. Have now found that Ann had a daughter, Mary Ann, who married in Harmondsworth in 1841. On her certificate her father was named as Robert Scates but this was her step father who came into her life when she was 4 years old. Later census records give her place of birth as Farlam, Cumberland and her father as William Scates and mother as Ann. Have not found a marriage yet but my gazetteer shows that Farlam is only one mile from Whinny Fell. Have not found sources of Farlam as LDS images are locked
red mail John Williamson

Mary Bristol Taylor Wilson

Mary died in Leeds in June 1866 age 5yrs. Siblings : Alexander, Marjory, Jane, John, James and Charles.I would dearly love to find out why she has "Bristol" as a 2nd name as it isn't part of the family ancestry as far as I know and also where she is buried. She was my Gt Grandpa's little sister. Thank you, Marj

red mail Little Family
I am looking for any info.regarding the Little family. My Grandmother Ellen Little was born in Cumberland in 1871.I know nothing of her parents or siblings. On the 1911 census it states that she was born in Baggora but it appears there is no such place, the only other place I have found is Baggrow,is it possible there was a mistake made on the census form ?.The census form tells me that she was living in Hexham and had been married to my Grandfather William Pearson Snowball for 4 years, unfortunately I am unable to find any record of the marriage,(my Grandfather died in 1917).On my Father's marriage certificate in 1942 it states Father John William Snowball, deceased !!! , although on my Father's birth certificate it gives his Father's name as William Pearson Snowball deceased.I am totally confused and would be grateful if anyone could help regarding my Grandmother's family.
