red mail Mayor of Whitehaven
I am researching Samuel Turner who was mayor of Whitehaven from 1925 for two years. He owned a bakery and was an alderman. He was also oneof the rescue team during the Wellington Pit Disaster of 1910 for which he was awarded the George Medal. He had seven children. I would love to hear from anyone with information on him or his children. I do have a very extensive family tree on the Turner family and i am happy to share the information.
red mail William Cowell
I am looking for any information on William Cowell, a mariner originating from the Isle of Man. He married Elizabeth Jardin in St Bees in 1822 and there is an Esther Cowell mentioned as a marriage witness who could be a sister. I have found the following children so far: Catharine, James, William, Elizabeth, Anne, and David. The 1851 census shows him in 2 Cooks Court, Marlbro Street, Whitehaven, with his wife and children Ann and David, and his niece Jane Brown. No place of birth is given, so I'm rather stuck. Could anyone who recognizes the name please get in touch. Many thanks, Petra
red mail Blevins, Blevans, Blevens
Trying to find anyone who is a Blevins and who may have investigated the Blevins ancestry in and around Whitehaven and preceding the end of the 18th century. I have been able to track my own lineage back to a Samuel Blevins who married a Margaret Winn in 1797 in Whitehaven and their subsequent son Samuel Blevins who married a Scottish girl named Nancy Graham in kirkcudbrightshire around 1825. They eventually had three daughters...2 born in Scotland and one when they returned to Whitehaven around 1829 before Samuel died in May 1830. Problem is I cannot locate any information on Samuel Snr. / Margaret Winn other than their marriage and some of their children. i am trying to trace his ancestors including where they came from, exact family members etc. etc. but despite extensive searches through local church records etc. i am no closer to finding answers. I'm hoping there are other Blevins family out there who may have info. and or relatives still living in Whitehaven, or any other info. that may help in this search. Other Blevins families still lived in Whitehaven through some of the later census reports but there are no links and i'm hoping somebody will know something that may help move forward. I am willing to share all info. I have found to date. Thanks Alan
