CLOSE HOUSE School (Welch family)
This small school appears in censuses from 1871 to 1901, run by Annie K Welch (bc1845 Yeovil) but perhaps owned by John WELCH (bc1825, Pilton) while he lived. At least 7 or 8 pupils are related to me, and three of these also have the surname Welch. At one time I thought A might be J's daughter but I am certain now that she is not. Are John and Annie related to one another or to the other Welches? Surely it can't just be coincidence? Any clues?

Pamela White
Searching for information concerning Pamela Violet White born 1933. Daughter of Albert Henry White (1907) and Emily Violet Green (1909/1910). Emily was the daughter of my grandfather Sidney George Green. I believe Pamela had 2 brothers :- Frederick Albert William White and Kenneth Norman George White. They spent some time in a childrens home in Shepton Mallet possibly around the late 1930`s early 1940`s. Emily Green had a large extended family and a number of her half brothers and sisters from Sidneys second marriage would like to make contact. I think Pamela might have moved to the London area whilst her brother Kenneth might have lived in Newbury? Any help would be appreciated.

BROWN - Edward (born about 1800 - died before 1861 census)
My great great grandfather was Edward Brown. He was born in Shepton Mallet around 1800 and was a cooper by trade. His wife, Elizabeth (?? maiden name not known but it MAY be Abbot or Alford ??) was listed as a widow on the 1861 census and was listed then as a laundress. She was born in Ashwick. My great grandfather, Henry Isaac Brown, was born in 1840-42 in either Ashwick or Chilcompton. He and his wife, Sarah Flower HILL (may have gone by Turner)emigrated to the U.S. around 1880. The family was associated with the coal industry in Somerset, in Tredegar, Monmouthshire, and finally in Nanticoke, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Any information about Edward and Elizabeth in particular would be of great assistance.

Ann(ie) Carter
Can anyone tell me where Prospect Place is/was in Shepton Mallet? Anne/Annie Carter was born there 31 Dec 1868 (parents John Carter & Susanna Gregory). She was living in Garston Street, Shepton Mallet on the 1871 census: with her parents in Prospect Place in the 1881 census, but I haven't yet found her on the 1891 census though there is an Annie Carter in Bath as a Cook Domestic Servant age 22 born in Somerset. Also, any ideas why she would have travelled to Pembrokeshire (the far West of Wales) where she married William Reid on 8 April 1897, and died on 19 May 1933? And to see if there's anything in the family lore: was she related to William Carter who was Governor of Shepton Mallet gaol from 1864 onwards? Thanks for any information.
