red mail John Monkhouse
I have been searching for the burial of my great great great grandfather who was the licensee of Black Lion on Snig Hill. (UK City & County Directories 1766-1946 "Monkhouse John, victualler and spirit merchant, Black Lion, 3 Snig Hill") He must have died after the birth of his daughter Emma in 1831 and before the census of 1841 when his widow Sarah is living at 12 Regent Terrace, Sheffield with three of her children. Any information greatly appreciated.
Dorothy Howe (Turton)
Dorothy was born in Ecclesall Bierlow abt. 1901. In the 1939 census she was living on Bannerdale Road. She was married to Horace Howe in 1925 but divorced in 1941. I would be grateful for any information.

red mail DAVAGE or DAVIDGE in Sheffield
I have been told that John DAVEG married Dinah HATTERSLEY in Ecclesfield, Yorkshire on 25th March 1788. I am unable to find this marriage online. They baptised their first child Dinah DAVIG (sic) 24 Mar 1788 in Ecclesfield one day before that marriage supposedly took place. Dinah HATTERSLEY was christened at Ecclesfield on 6th February 1763, and her father was Jonathan HATTERSLEY. Their next child a William DAVIDGE was baptised 4 Jul 1790 in Ringley, Lancashire, parents John & Diana DAVIDGE. Why? He turns up in Sheffield marrying a woman named Ruth c. 1820. Ruth says she was born Owlerton. I cannot find this marriage either. William & Ruth DAVAGE baptised son George 13 Oct 1822 at Sheffield Cathedral and at that time were living in Wadsley Bridge. They already had a son John c. 1821 whose baptism I cannot find. Except for William, all their children were baptised as DAVAGE but in the 1841 Census the family is listed as DAVIES. Following this family forward they eventually revert to the more common spelling of the surname DAVIDGE. The men all seem to be involved in the steel industry, primarily a forgemen, so may have been illiterate. Is anyone else researching this family? I have many John DAVIDGE's (various spellings) that could be the man who married Dinah, but I need help to sort out which one. Nancy, Canada
