Rev. Robert Brown-Borthwick of All Saints church
Rev. Robert Brown-Borthwick was rector of All Saints church, Scarborough for 22 years from 1872 until just before his death in 1894. He is buried in Hertfordshire (where I live) but was born in Aberdeen in 1840. At birth he was just plain "Robert Brown" but he adopted the additional name of Borthwick when he married Grace Borthwick. The couple had no children. Robert was famous as the author of hymns, and wrote several books. I would very much like to find a picture of Robert (and Grace) and any additional details about his life. Also, I understand that All Saints was demolished in 1975, and any old pictures of the church would be much appreciated too. Very many thanks, Valerie

red mail Burnet Widow
1881 Census lists Martha Burnett and her daughter (my great greandmother) Alice Burnett Beswick living in Scarborough. The Beswicks were joiners in Snainton. Supposedly, Martha Burnett was related to Richard Burnett the Lord Mayor of London in 1912-14. Is there a "Society Page" that would describe the gentle people of Scarborough?

Brewins, Joseph
This person, who came from Rawcliffe, Goole, died in Scarborough 07.06.1898, age 45. His wife had died in Rawcliffe, 2 months earlier, and he is buried there so was perhaps visiting Scarborough. I wonder if he had an accident or if anyone has info. Are there records of local newspapers for obituaries/stories?
