red mail Annie or Nancy Morris
I am looking for information on an Annie MORRIS, sometimes known as Nancy, who worked as a Housekeeper at 144 Broad Street, Pendleton, Salford in 1922-24. She was born in 1900 (+/- the usual 1yr or so which seems to frequent different records) but ended up in Quebec, Canada. I have found her as a passenger on the Montrose on 1st March 1924, sailing from Liverpool to St Johns, New Brunswick, arriving on 8th March with no stops en route the I've been able to identify, but, in spite of employing a top genealogist in Montreal, there is no record of her actually immigrating at that time even though there was NO 'Not On board' annotation against her name in the manifest. I have found an Annie Morris who fits the age, nationality and occupation, working as a Housekeeper until her retirement in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, but have no way of verifying her employment records to see if this is 'our' Annie/Nancy and who may have been her Next of Kin. I have spent forever searching for her after March 1924, via other UK departure ports and arriving in any of the regular North American east coast ports, and I've searched countless border crossings from the US to Canada, but nobody quite fits the picture even though I've used all manner of alternative spellings and similar sounding names. We know she was in Montreal at some point, as there was a letter post-marked Lachine to my father's parents, Charles and Maria TURNER of 2 Villiers Street, Pendleton, in circa 1932. Maria had been a cleaner at 144 Broad Street when Nancy was Housekeeper. (My father, Colin, is now nearly 94 and is riveted by my genealogy work!) We think her father had died as it seemed to be two brothers who acted for her in the UK. We understand that Annie was friendly with a Joshua LEWIS, a butcher, but more than that we cannot say. I know that 144 Broad Street is no longer, but in the 1911 Census it was owned by a Mr FAZAKERLY, a house painter. I would love to know to whom he sold the house or, if rented, who replaced him as the tenant, as it could be most useful. Later, in 1925, an Alexander James MILNE GALL lived there, a student dental surgeon who married a Marjorie STOUT from Seedley Road. The property remained a dental practice there for many years. The residents of the house in the in-between years remains a mystery, and we're not sure where Annie came from either, even if she came from the area! If I could find out who owned/lived in the house in 1922 things might lead me to where I need to be. I have been following a family in Lowcock St., off Lower Broughton Road, by the name of Morris - but only because there is an Annie whose father (Peter Morris) appears to have died by 1911 but who had two older brothers (Thomas and George Henry) recorded in the census that year. This fits with the notion of brothers acting for Annie back here in the UK. Her mother was called Sarah Ellen Morris, born in 1854 in Massachusetts to John James BARKER and Sarah WHALLEY, and her first husband was Michael DUFFY; in the 1911 Census a much older half-brother called John James Duffy was also recorded. I have not been able to find any record showing that the widowed Sarah Ellen actually married Peter MORRIS, but she had 3 or so children by each partner. I have a lot of detail about this family, but, although the facts seem to fit, I cannot 'go' on that if I don't have a proven connection. I will not expand on things here as genealogical research is full of blind alleys! However, if anyone knows of this family and can confirm whether or not 'their' Annie went to Canada after March 1924, I could rule it in or out. If she did not, I will stop following that family. Any information on Annie/Nancy Morris or the history of 144 Broad Street between 1911 and 1926-ish would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

red mail Sinclair's from Bootle to Manchester
My Great Grandparents, Catherine SINCLAIR nee MALONE, 1965-1918 and James SINCLAIR, 1863-1912, Marine Fireman, MN, a twin brother to Malcolm SINCLAIR, stoker in MN, all born in Bootle. James and Catherine married in 1883. Might have lived in Clifford Street until about 1895 when Catherine lost her sixth child in August of that year then through neglect of her other 5 children being drunk and neglectful, causing a disturbance where children were taken to shelter in Kings Road, Bootle, she was jailed for a month. Her husband was at sea. I know what happened to the four girls, but there has been no mention of the baby that died at 3 mths old in the August, or nothing has been heard of the eldest, Malcolm Lawrence Sinclair b 1883, since 1900's census residing at Olivia? street aged about 17, then disappeared. Catherine later went to live in Salford or Haywood? Greater Manchester were she died in flu epidemic. Her sister Charlotte MALONE b 18969, niece Maria MALONE 1873, and daughter Isabella (Bella) Langhorn, nee SINCLAIR lived there, all born Bootle. Isabella died in Hope Hospital in 1960. Her husband worked as doorman or such at a theatre in Salford? Regards Any information would be most welcome to help with family tree and Biography.
