MAIDEN or MEADON or MADIN or MAYDEN of North Wingfield Derby
MAIDEN or MEADON or MADIN and variations re Samuel MAIDEN married Elizabeth LANGFORD in North Wingfield Derby England in 1840. Samuel and his wife emigrated to Australia in 1854 with their family and settled at Menindee New South Australia two yearsafter arriving in South Australia. His name is variously incorrectly spelt in the records as MEADON / MAYDEN and MADIN and other variations. In Australia he and all his descendants have only ever used MAIDEN. His father was William MAIDEN and his mother is alleged to have been Fanny WATSON. Any descendants welcome to make contact to try to extend the already extensive tree. Note a book was written some years ago by G Manning but sadly the research was inadequate and the book has many errors. The most glaring errors including suggesting incorrectly that the family were from the North of England. Nothing wrong with the North of England but by viewing the various marriage and birth certificates it is very clear that this MAIDEN was from Derby. Also the book incorrectly asserts that one child was a daughter of Samuel MAIDEN and his wife Elizabeth. Wrong. Their first alleged "daughter" was their niece. She was a daughter of James MAIDEN and she traveled to Australia with her Uncle and Aunt to assist her Aunt who gave birth to a baby just before the ship "Royal Charlie" left England to sail to Australia. The said "daughter" really a niece recognised the correct name of her father James MAIDEN on her marriage certificate.
