John Marshall
I am trying to find out what happened to John Marshall who was a printer in Newcastle until his bankruptcy in 1831. In 1828 his daughter, Ann was sentenced to 14 years transportation in lieu of death penalty for housebreaking. There was a lot of newspaper reports of this at the time. John seems to have had a breakdown after this and neglected his business, hence the bankruptcy. There are too many John Marshalls listed in the death registers to send for certificates so does anyone know anything about him?

red mail Elizabeth Richardson
ELIZABETH RICHARDSON married ROBINSON MOSES COLLIN on April 12th, 1848 in the Parish Church in the Parish of All Saints. When they married, they resided in Heaten. Her father was WILLIAM RICHARDSON, a brewer by trade. She had two daughters prior to her marriage to ROBINSON COLLIN. Their names were ISABELLA FOSTER and DOROTHY ANN FOSTER (my great grandmother). ROBINSON, ELIZABETH and her two daughters emigrated to America in 1850. They settled in the area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. ROBINSON COLLIN grew up in Whickham, Durham. His parents are buried in the cemetery of St. Mary the Virgin, Whickham. I am trying to find information about ELIZABETH RICHARDSON and her father, WILLIAM RICHARDSON.

Herbert Wilson Edgcumbe
According to 1891 and 1901 census Herbert was born in Doncaster about 1856. He first appears in the 1891 census in Newcastle upon Tyne. He was living with Henry Tate(Tait) and was the informant on the death certificate for Henry in 1903. In 1911 he was still in newcastle living with Henry's nieces. I would like to know his birth family. Where was he in 1861, 1871 and 1881? I have recently obtained his death certificate. His full name is henry Wilson Edgcumbe and he died in Newcastle in 1922, he was a caretaker at Armstrong Ordnance Works. Could he have been adopted or illegitimate with a different surname?

red mail Elizabeth (Burrell?) wife of John Symonds
Hi, some fellow descendants and I are trying to find out more about this woman's life in Northumberland. We have the General Quarter Sessions for Northumberland records detailing that she was sentenced in 1813 to be transportation to Australia for 7 years for stealing a silk handkerchief. A Mary SYMONDS, perhaps her sister-in-law, was found not guilty at the same trial. Elizabeth travelled to Australia on the Broxbournebury in 1814 and was assigned to a recently widowed male convict, Isaac DOWSE or DOUSE, to help him look after his children. She became his replacement "wife" as well as nanny. Elizabeth and Isaac had four children together. We would love to know Elizabeth's maiden name but we are all in Australia which makes it difficult to research in Northumberland. There was an Elizabeth BURREL who married John SIMMONS at St John's, Newcastle, on 4 Mar 1798. This would have been in the right time frame. We have two baptism records from All Saints for daughters of this John and Elizabeth (Elizabeth 3 Mar 1799; Anne 8 Sept 1811) which describe the parents as "John SIMMONS, basketmaker, of Morpeth", and "Elizabeth, daughter of William BURRELL maltman of this parish". Her father William might have been born in Morpeth in 1751, then travelled to Eglingham where Elizabeth was baptised in 1772. Any help will be gratefully received as this has turned into a real dead end for us, which is especially frustrating as we have so much source material from the court appearance and later. Thanks, Geoff Turner.

red mail Bailes,Benson,Beckett
Seeking details of my grandmothers siblings and their families. Annie Lousia Bailes, b.1881 in Newcastle Upon Tyne was the youngest of eight children born to John & Mary Bailes. Grandmothers brothers and sisters were Margaret, Mary, Jane, Fred, John George, Henry, William, of these one married Edward Benson, another married William Beckett and John George, a watchmaker married Phoebe Brewis. To my knowledge, except for Annie who married John Ferens Coltman, and her niece Hilda Benson these families stayed in the Northumberland and Durham areas of the country. I would gratefully appreciate any additional info on any of these families.
