Hi all Are you able to see a copy of a birth in Horwich (Farnworth) in 1970 without ordering it from the GRO? I have the volume and page number from FreeBMD, but wondered if the info is stored locally at the archives office there? I need to know the mother & father's name on the certificate. As it is sensitive I can't write the name here, but if anyone can access the record I can send you my email address. If the record can only be obtained from the GRO I'll do that instead :) Thank you!! Ruth
red mail LONG SHOT!
Hi, This is a long shot...I need to find a birth in Horwich c1970 (prob within 2 yrs either side at the most) He was either a Michael or a Mark, and his mother had the same surname as he did...but we don't know it!! I see that the births indexed for Horwich only go to the late 60's?? Is there any way to search from 1968-1972?? Thre may be numerous births with either of those names, but if the mother's name is the same I can then order the birth certs. Thanks, Ruth

red mail Hopwood/Cuthbert/Ainsworth Families
Our records show that Frederick Hopwood married Maggie Cuthbert(second marriage) and they lived at Mary Street East from around 1901 . Maggie had two children Elizabeth and Abraham. Abraham died in 1904 and he was in the forces earlier as we have a photo taken in Jamaica. With Fred she had Fred jnr Annie and Emily.None of these children married and the last one continued to live in Mary St until they died around 1950. Fred died first then Emily then Annie. We believe Frederick re-married when Maggie died in 1904. We also believe he had a daughter around 1911 and she was called or known as May. Frederick died in 1914 or so. We have a family photo showing his new wife and a baby and we believe Margarita. Elizabeth had a child Margarita who lived with the Hopwoods to about 1914 and she then heads towards London.Margarita's father was supposed to be a William Ainsworth. He must have travelled about and sometimes stayed at a guest house in Blackpool run by a Mrs Morton born in Canada. He is said to be a Press Correspondant and died in 1914 or so, either in a fire on a ship to New York or in a riot in India!! Does this story ring a bell with anyone in the area? If so I would love to hear from you.
