Mark HAMMOND
Mark HAMMOND might have been born around Grewelthorpe around 1821. He was a soldier in the 68th Regiment in Canada around 1844 when he married Catherine O'SHEA The regiment moved back to England in 1844, their son John was born and baptised in Quebec just before they left. The regiment was in Chester for a period in 1846 and their daughter Isabel was born and baptised there. The regiment then moved to Dublin but I don't yet know if Mark went with them. Mark HAMMOND's parents were Thomas HAMMOND and Elizabeth TEMPLE/TOPHAM/??? (the name was written by a French speaking clerk in Quebec). In 1851 Catherine was a widow in Laverton, Yorkshire. Catherine married John SWALES (born ABT 1779 Brunton) in 1854.
