Smith Family
SMITH. Edgar Clifton Ashley Gloucester 6a 315 Birth Sep Q 1907 Married a Lily Richardson Dryden Marriages Jun 1933 Dryden Lily R Smith Gloucester 6a 773 Smith Edgar C A Dryden Gloucester 6a 773 Edgar was a heavy vehicle delivery driver so travelled around a lot I believe Edgar was living in Gloucester with a woman until she died 1933. It was then he married Lily I also believe that Lily and Edgar had a long term affair when lily got pregnant she lived in Coventry. Not 100% that Edgar is the father it could be the adoptive parent who actually fathered the male child who was born out of wedlock in 1931, Lily being a single woman and with no means to support a child and with Edgar in a long term relationship she had no choice but to put the child up for adoption. It was too late the adoption process had gone through by time Edgar and Lily married in 1933. If anyone knows of Smith family in Gloucester who maybe able to throw some light on this. Mary Ann Hyett 1863 - 1933 Spouse Alfred Ashley Smith 1879 - 1953 Parents of Edgar Clifton Ashley Smith Many thanks

Just to add the birth of Alfred James Dryden in Coventry 1931 seems he could have been given names of his grandparents Lily's father was James and Edgar's father was Alfred. It seems a logical assumption

Looking for further information about John Canning born in 1757 & Ann Hewlett born in 1755. Know Ann Hewlett was christened in Frampton on 24 November 1754 & was the daughter of Daniel & Elizabeth Hewlett (Family Search IGI refers: Index C02836 -3 Film: 855690) and that John & Ann have inscriptions in Frampton churchyard. Possible that marriage is John Canning to 'Nancy Howlett' at St. Mary de Lode, Precincts of Gloucester Cathedral September 1778 approx. Have family tree from this point onwards but need to locate John's birthplace & siblings etc.

My maternal Great-grandmother was Emily Hooper before she married my Great-grandfather Arthur Purnell. Emily Hooper said she was an ancester of Bishop John Hooper and had a death mask plague of him. Bishop Hooper was burnt at the stake in Gloucester.

Blue School, Gloucester
An ancestor of mine (Charles Elston Jeffs, aged 11) is listed as a pupil at the Blue School, Eastgate in the 1851 census. Head of school is listed as Shadrack Charlston, aged 74, ex-army. I can find no trace of him in any other census. Does any Curious Fox know anything about the school or its head? His daughter, Hestor was matron in 1851. It sounds very Dickensian! My poor ancestor!! Any information, please. Rosemary.
