Query about Croston
I have been to Croston today to do a bit of research in the churchyard re my late husband's family the Spiby family, I did find one gravestone. However on walking through the village I was fascinated to see a notice about Little Hanging Bridge(Isle of Man). As I have Manx ancestry and lived there until recently I would like to know what the connection is. Also I saw a reference to Spibeys Corner. Does anyone know the answer to these two queries?

red mail Burthom family
I am trying to trace the ancestry of my great-great-grandfather Henry Burtham who was born in 1809 in Croston. His parents were John Burthom a shoemaker who married Eleanor Latham in 1806 also in Croston. John died in 1814 aged 39 and Eleanor subsequently married Thomas Iddon. That means John was born in 1774/5 but cannot find any baptism record. I can only find one possible earlier reference to the name Burthom and would be very interested to know the name's origin.
