LONGMIRE & BRAITHWAITE
George LONGMIRE, son of William LONGMIRE of Kendal married Ann BRAITHWAITE in 1692. They lived for a while at Crook, but then settled at Colthouse and Roger Ground. They were members of the Society of Friends (Quakers) and attended the Colthouse Meeting House. George was employed to build the wall around the Colthouse Quaker Burial Ground, in which he was later interred. They had a number of children, whose names and dates I can share. I descnd from William b 1702, who moved to Leeds, where he became a maltster and eminent Quaker preacher, attending Annual Meeting in London. He married Anna ENGLISH nee HORNOR, widow of Nathaniel ENGLISH (who was a descendant of Margaret FELL nee ASKEW). I have Anna's will. Their son Benjamin b. 1748 became a tobacconist in Castle Donnington, Derbyshire, and stated that to be his occupation when he married Elizabeth PAGE nee PLOWRIGHT at St Peter's, Derby in 1772.
