I am trying to trace my Hartley family tree back through the 1500/1600s I have details of Rogerus Hartley born near Colne and there are two entries. One date 16 Feb 1605/6 for Rogerus Hartley baptised at St Bartholomew son of Jolis Hartley and another date 29 June 1606 for Rogerus Hartley baptised at St Bartholomew son of Rogeri Hartley. I need to find the mothers name to establish which one is correct for my tree. Any ideas???

red mail smith and howker families
I am looking for information regarding William Smith and his wife Esther Howker. Both were born in Colne about 1821 and, on his son James Howker Smith's marriage certificate in 1871 it states that William Smith was a grocer, although I also believe he worked as a cotton weaver. In addition to Colne, they also lived in Bacup.

Joseph Shackleton born 1813 in Lomishaw, Colne
My GGGrandfather,on my mother's side, Joseph Shackleton, was born in Lomishaw, Colne in 1813, he was woolcomber by trade. In the 1851 census he was living in Bradford, Yorkshire and was working as an overlooker. I cannot find much about exactly where Lomishaw was/is. Was it an area of big mills or just cottage industries. I guess Shackleton was quite a common name even in that period of time.

red mail Holgate
Looking for ancestors of Hargreaves Holgate born about 1846, son of Mary born in Colne about 1805. I have found early records of the surnames Hargreaves, Holgate and Hartley in the late 1500s/early 1600s - the names reappear in the early 1800s and are linked, I am trying to unravel them. There is a gap of around 200 years in the middle and a Samuel Hargreaves Hartley Holgate married in 1872 in Ashton under Lyne. Clues would be much appreciated, Hargreaves Holgate is my husband's great-grandfather and we have his name as the bride's father on his daughter Amy Annie Holgate's marriage certificate from 1907. HH died in 1923 in Birkenhead.
