I'm looking for the family of my 3x Great Grandmother,Sarah "Sally" EASTAWAY, born C1789 in Barnstaple, and died 1861 there also. She married Humphrey MILLS from South Molton,Devonshire, in 1812 in Barnstaple. They had 7 children, all born in Barnstaple-William, born 1813, Sarah,b.1816,John Scott b.1819,my 2x Great Grandfather George (1820-1858),John (1823-1895),Elizabeth (1826-1904) and Mary Jane b.1831. red mail Holly Le Gros
My great great grandmother seems to have adopted the above when she was a baby. The baby is shown to have been born in 1888 in Barnstaple but no indication of who the parents were. My great grandmother, Louise Manning certainly had the child when she was 2/3 as it shows in the 1891 census. Later Holly is known as Olive Legros and then Holly Manning. She lived with Louise and my great grandmother Millicent Aurora in various places including Barnstaple, Bristol, Stroud and Chalford before, as an adult settling in Swindon where she died in 1961. She was married twice firstly to a guy named Rutter and then Bown. Any info would be much appreciated Tony

red mail VELLACOTT
Thank you to those who helped me with the DOIDGE connection, now I am hoping someone can help me further. William & Eleanor VELLACOTT had two sons, WILLIAM HUMPHRY (b 1843) and HUMPHERY (b 1845). Their children are all listed a being born BARNSTAPLE although other records show they were born in TAWSTOCK, a small village just outside Barnstaple in the 19th century. I am still trying to work out exactly who belongs where. Help please.

red mail Union Workhouse
My great x 2 grandfather, James Boaden, was an inmate of the workhouse from some time in the 1880s until he died there in 1906. The census of 1881 shows him in Princes Street, where he lived for most of his life. The entries in the 1891 and 1901 census data, cast doubt on it being him, because the surname is spelt incorrectly, ages are wrong, and he is described as a widower, which he was not. His wife Rebecca had joined four sons who had moved with the Lace Trade to Nottingham. His death certificate shows it was definitely him, seeming to confirm that the earlier census entries were simple mistakes. Any information about the workhouse in this period would be welcome.

William VELLACOTT b.1803, Barnstaple married Eleanor DOIDGE in Barnstaple in 1839, I think. William was a Draper in High St. Their children were William (my line), Humphrey, Mary & Jane. Information on the Velacott's is quite good but ANY information on ELEANOR DOIDGE would be appreciated.
