red mail Blyths of Balvonie House, Skelmorlie
Balvonie was built for my greatgrandfather Robert Blyth in 1904-5, and he lived there with his wife & children (including my grandfather Robert Oswald Blyth) from 1906 until his death in 1917. His surviving daughters Alice and Lucy stayed on until 1921 when they sold it & moved to Surrey. The house was later owned by the Cockburn family, and the Salvation Army from the 1950s to about 2005. Although a listed building, it now has planning permission for conversion to 5 apartments. They also leased Skelmorlie House c1897-1905. Memorial window in Skelmorlie Church. Any more info will be gratefully received. (P.S. Since posting this I have managed to visit Balvonie & the church.)
