red mail Rothiemay
I have just discovered that I have a line of Stuarts and Milnes from Rothiemay, Banff. I am searching for info on ancestors of Jean Stuart, b. 5 Dec. 1795 in Rothiemay. Father is James and mother is Jean Milne. Jean the daughter married William McKechnie in Glasgow in 1815. Would like to hear from anyone researching these lines in Rothiemay. Thank you.
red mail Cowie family
I have discovered that all the Cowies living in Rathven in the 19th century were given special names to tag on to their surnames. My ancestors were Bullen Cowies. Could anyone tell me what the 'Bullen' stands for? Would it be naive of me to ask if there is any one out there researching William Cowie who was born in Aberdeen (I think) in 1841 but moved to Rathven where he married Elspet...They had a son, William b1863 who married my Great Granny Elspet Jane Addison. Thanks for your time. Helen.
I am researching a family which centres on a marriage of a William Green to a Maggie Benzie in about 1909.I am totally unfamiliar with Scottish genealogy. Are 1891 & 1901 censuses there similar to English returns? I would be grateful for any advice. Thanks, Roger.
