Entries around
John and Rosanna Hill
Census 1841 shows my 3G Grandfather John Hill (b. Ireland abt 1786) working as a labourer in Muirkirk; his wife Rosanna (whose maiden name may have been Shakespere) was also apparently born in Ireland. Their children Arthur (b. 1818) and Charlotte (1825) were born in Minnigaff, Kirkcudbrightshire; daughter Elinor was born abt 1830 in Ayrshire. Arthur Hill, my 2G Grandfather, married Elizabeth McCartney (b. 1823) in Muirkirk (1843); the couple moved to Patna, Dalmellington. I would like to hear from, and share info with, anyone else interested in these families.

I'd like to contact, and share information with, anyone researching these families.

William McClelland and Margaret Chessnut
My 4G grandparents William McClelland, Sherriff Officer (sometimes listed as McLelland or McLellan), and Margaret Chessnut (or Chesney or Chesnay) moved in about 1801 to Muirkirk where their daughter Agnes and son John were born (in 1801 and 1803 respectively). Previously they lived for a while in Sanquhar, Dumfries, where daughters Jean and Lilias (my 3G grandmother) were born (in 1796 and 1799 respectively). Janet (1787), Elizabeth (1789) and Hugh (1790) were born at the Lead Mines in Minnigaff, Kirkcudbright. I'd be interested to contact, and share information with, anyone else researching these families.

red mail Janet McFarlane 1813 - 1891
I'm trying to find a birth record for Janet McFarlane who according to her Death Certificate was the daughter of Grace Gibson and John McFarlane (who were married, he was a Coal Miner). According to Census 1851-1891 Janet was born in Ayrshire, but lived in Sorn. I've heard that Grace is a nickname for Grizel. Have located two gents who were the sons of Grizel/Grizal Gibson and John McFarlane (Scotlands People and FamilySearch). James McFarlane (1810-1835) and Dougal McFarlane (1821 - ?) were born in Muirkirk. Given that there is an eleven year age gap, there is a strong possibility of further children. Both James and Dougal were also Miners and were in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire.

red mail GIBSON Muirkirk 1851
I am trying to locate information on my gg grandfather James Gibson. His parents were Ann Weir and William Gibson. I am trying to get information on William and his ancestors. A Weir cousin told me there was a William Gibson baptised on May 29, 1808 in the Muirkirk Parish. His parents were William and Jane Russel Gibson. I am trying to determine if this is my William. Does anyone have any info on this family? Thank you.
