Bruce MacDonald Watson Todd
Bruce Todd married Joan Vaughan Challoner probably in the late 1960's. A family friend informs me that they lived in Mount Stuart Road, Largs in 1969. Joan previously lived in Dronfield, Derbyshire with her parents Ernest and Emily. They were the owners of my house from 1945 - 64. I am trying to put together a history of the house and I would love to contact Joan and/or her brother, Brian to gather more information. Many thanks. Ken

red mail Hyndman
Henry Hyndman (1755-1803) is the central ancestor to a large family with a big history. I know that his mother was Elizabeth Hunter of Hunterstown, but I am really trying to trace his father's family and the surname. Has anyone encountered Hyndman from Largs? It seems that his father John may be the "merchant" and mariner John that settled there from Renfrewshire however I am missing evidence of Henry's birth that might prove this. Henry had a house called Springside at West Kilbride. When he died at sea in 1803 he left it to his wife Sarah Blair. I have located Springside on an old 1800 map. He also had a business and a house at Largs that he gave his sister Rebecca to live in to death or marriage whichever came first. Henry had been a soldier all his life but I think he was something of an entrepreneur in India on the side. He also had two sons and a previous marriage that it is hard to say if his wife knew existed. I can't work out if he was a rogue or an interesting adventurer. I want to find out what sort of business he had and would love to locate the house at Largs. I'd also like to find out if his wife did actually look after the interests of the young man in India called Henry. This son became a founder of a family that had a large part in building British business at Hong Kong, and their work has in some small way helped to shape global finance as we know it. Despite this perhaps not being the best thing that ever happened, I think it would be wonderful to find that Henry had bankrolled the joint. I am kind of joking here but any advice would be helpful I think. I also have quite an amount of information on Henry, and his Ilk, should anyone be researching.
