red mail STEWARTS, GORDONS mine workers, ERSKINE a baker, Govanhill
Researching Charles STEWART and Isabella MAXWELL both born 1831 and married in Hutcheston in 1850, he was a Wright in the colliery and died in the Colliery houses at the early age of 27 (24/10/1857) but still had time to have 3 children Margaret (1851), James (1853) and Annie (1855). Isabella remarried to John GORDON and had another two children Jeanie (1866) and Isabella (1869) before she died on 12/03/1879 at Campbells Land, Strathbungo. John Gordon was the brother of Charles Stewarts mother, he was born in Leadhills (1806). Charles was born in Drem, East Lothian and his father, though a teacher, was from a Leadhills mining family which is probably what drew him to the mines as other Leadhills men were in Govanhill. James Stewart the son of Charles married Elizabeth MAIN and has four children Charles (1883), Elizabeth Brown Stewart (1884), Isabella (1886) and Annie (1888) on his sister Annies death cert in 1884 James is listed as living in Marchtown Place. His sister Annie was married to Daniel Erskine a baker, she had time for two children before her death in 1884, Isabella Maxwell Erskine (1880) and Mary Jane Brody Erskine (1884). Mary was married to William Hamilton and she was a newsagent in North Frederick St. Interested in any info on these people and there descendents.
