CANNON / FINAN / KELLY
I have Irish ancestors who came over to Willenhall, Staffordshire in the late 1840's. Looking at census returns and the surnames of relatives and neighbours it seems that there was a link with the border area of Co Galway, Co Roscommon and Co Mayo. The only family lore I have is that my direct ancestors John & Ellen Cannon were born in Galway (sometimes written Canning) I have found them on 1851 census in Staffordshire with a young family of five (John, Patrick, Bridget, Mary, James) where it states that their eldest 3 children were also born in Galway. For some reason they soon changed their surname to Finon (also spelt as Finan, Fining, Fynan etc) and this surname was used as well as Cannon by various family members for the next 40 years. In 1891, some of their descendants move to Barnsley to lodge with an uncle and aunt called Kelly: Peter is from Sligo and Ellen is from Galway. I'd very much like to find out where our Cannons originated from in Ireland, so if anyone has any connections with any of these names I'd be happy to compare notes.

red mail Searching for WALSH
I am trying to validate the parents and siblings of my 2nd gg, Ellen Walsh. Ellen was born in Tuam, Galway circa 1830. I believe her parents to be John Walsh and Catherine Briggs, but I am not sure. I do have a possible baptism for Eleanor Walsh in 1833. That is where I am getting the names of her parents. Ellen immigrated to New Orleans, Louisiana, USA in 1847 according to a census. She married Michael Finney from Westmeath around 1853 in New Orleans. This is all I have as far as where she lived in Ireland. Thank you. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jean
