red mail James and Margaret Docherty (nee Allan)
James and Margaret were married on 1st january, 1883, in the parish of Bonhill, Dumbarton. They resided in Alexandria. James's parents were John and Catherine (nee Coyle) while Margaret's were William and Mary Allan. According to family stories, the Dochertys came from Ireland (Donegal?)in 1840s/1850s. My search has stalled in Alexandria. There are Dochertys on the 1881 census bu no exact matches. both families were Roman Catholic and both fathers were general labourers. Any help would be great!

red mail lindsay of alexandria
i have an ancestor - David Lindsay c1793-1856. He married in lancashire in 1821, but we know he came from scotland. We have a 'notification of death' card for a James Lindsay who died in 1934 age 94. His wife Martha Gardner Craid died in 1932 age 92. They lived in Linnbrane Alexandria, which I believe is in Dunbartonshire. I assume therefore that James and David are related somehow but i don't know how. Obviously James was of a younger generation, and appears to be the son of Gordon Lindsay of Bonhill / Alexandria. perhaps Gordon and DAvid were brothers or cousins? Does anybody have any information? many thanks.
