Stevens - Glass Makers
Does anyone have information about the Stevens family associated with the Moor Lane glass works in Brierley Hill? It was leased early in the 19th C by Joseph Stevens and Joseph Silvers. One of the Silvers daughters married William, Joseph Stevens’s son, and another married Samuel Cox Williams: the firm became "Stevens and Williams" and later Royal Brierley.
My g-g-g-f was a glass maker: Charles Stevens, b ca 1810, who married Maria Pearsall. Their many children included: Elizabeth, who married John Lamont (or Lemont or Lemond or Lamond); Emma, who married Matthias Rollason; Ann Maria, who married William Wall; and Samuel, my g-g-f, b 1845. Charles's father was William who married Sarah (probably née Rewberry). I’m fairly confident that William was related to the Joseph of Stevens and Williams but I can’t find the connection.
Samuel, who was himself a glass maker, married twice. He had a daughter Catherine (b ca 1872 in Wollaston) by his first wife, Sarah (1846-79). Catherine probably married Joseph Hickman in 1893 in Wolverhampton. Samuel remarried in 1880, to Louisa Yardley, my g-g-m, who lived till 1949 and whom I remember from my childhood.
