PHILLIPS and OLD
Interested in finding out what happened to Francis Patrick PHILLIPS and Cecilia May OLD who were married in Middlesbrough in spring or early summer 1903. Patrick was born in Cork, Ireland c1875, the third son of James PHILLIPS by his wife Jane nee BARNES and served for about 12 years in the Hampshire Regiment, mostly overseas in the West Indies and briefly in South Africa. He left the army on 31 January 1903. Patrick's older brother, Henry James PHILLIPS, married Hilda Mary OLD, also in Middlesbrough, on 30 August 1899. Henry served in the Royal Engineers and was posted in Middlebrough from 1899 for substantially the whole of his known career. Their father, James PHILLIPS, served for 21 years in the 76 Regiment of Foot, the 'Hindoostan',and in his retirement ran the Swan Inn at Totton in Southampton. Cecilia died in Bolton on 12 May 1956 and her death certificate shows her as the wife (not the widow) of Francis Phillips, a professional musician, so he was presumably alive at this date. Did this couple leave any descendants? Does anyone know what happened to them between 1903 and 1956? And why did she end up in Bolton?
