I am a 4th generation Australian. My Father's paternal family came from Newcastle on Tyne , having moved there from Morland , Westmorland , via Carlisle . My Father's maternal side is a mix of a Devonshire man , who came to Victoria Australia in the Army in 1851 , whilst the other side of the mix is a Scottish lass, who appears to have travelled to Australia without any family members.
My mother's ancestrally is all Cornish. Her paternal side from around the Mylor, Feock areas , whilst the maternal side , came from a broad area around Launceston .
These families lived basically in and around the area of Ballarat for at least three generations. Although not all were involved with actually mining in the 'Gold Rushes' ; they seem to have been connected to this activity in some way . Some of my Mother's 'family' so returned to Farming , which was their prime occupation prior to their immigration.
My main research is in the names of , Bainbridge , Chard , Stevens and Pearse .
