Dynan/Dinan/Dinnin/Dinen etc who were Tailors in Lancashire.
Hi, I'm looking for help with Dynan/Dinan's in Liverpool and possibly Manchester in the early to mid 1800's. The oldest known relation is John Dynan/Dinan born abt 1806-12 in Ireland, possibly Co Cork, he was a Tailor by occupation. He's on the 1841 census with his family but then left his family in Liverpool and emigrated to the US arriving safely in late 1850 in New York, it appears he quickly died there according to his wife's 1851 Liverpool Census where she is listed as 'widow'.
We cannot find anything other than his marriage in 1827 at the Cathedral Manchester to Ann Parry ( no parents listed), the 1841 English census and then his arrival in New York, we cannot find his parents or his death registered anywhere and it's very frustrating! He/they had four children that we know of, but maybe even eight or more between 1827-1845, John, Charles, Griffith and Ann. I know the lines down from these children, except for John born abt 1829-31 in Anglesey, Wales who is on the 1851 census living with his maternal Grandparents. (I'm trying not to get side tracked..but John 'junior' may also go to the US later and die in the Battle of Bull Run/Manassas in 1861, or he could be the person in the family tale who 'fell' overboard off a ship and drowned, maybe trying to save a colleagues life...another puzzle.)
I'm now pinning my hopes on the fact John 'senior' is listed as a Tailor on any documentation we have seen. Curiously in Lancashire at that time there appears to be a few Dynan/Dinan/Dinnin/Dineen men who were all Tailors, so I'm hoping there is some link, they maybe related ie. if his brothers then trained in the family business in Ireland, if his sons then trained pre 1841 census and out working elsewhere etc!
Does anyone know anything about these other men who were tailors: William Dynan who married Mary Dansall in 1835, Edward Dinnin who married Margaret Holburn in Rochdale in 1851 and his father also called Edward was a tailor too, Nicholas Dynan who married Mary Simmons/Sommers in 1851 in Bolton and his father was John Dynan also a tailor and maybe our John or not, and Robert Dinnen who was a tailor and also the father of Robert John Dinnen (a tailor)who married Mary Ann Piper in 1885 in Salford) incase a family link starts to appear? Also in Liverpool about the same time were two sisters, Mary Dynan marrying James Walsh in 1834 and Bridget Dynan marrying John Lyons (a Tailor!) in's possible these two could be relations also.
Does anyone know anything at all that could help me break through this wall? My parents tried for years pre the Internet using old records and churchyard visits etc and I've been trying for at least 20 yrs now!
Any help or guidance of any sort would be fantastic, Thank you. Lynn
