Davey and Sons, Painters and Decorators, Southernhay
John Davey and Elizabeth Gibbs were married at St Mary Arches, Exeter on 11 December 1791.
They had five sons, two of whom (John and Charles) joined their father in his painting and decorating business. By 1841 John snr was employing 22 men in the business and two servants at home. Another son, William, was supplying paints to artists and decorators. His business was in Fore Street. After John snr's death in 1852 the decorating business continued in the hands of his sons and grandson. I am trying to find out more about the remaining two sons, Edward and Thomas. Edward was born in 1801 and died in 1837. Thomas was born 1797 and also died in 1837; his burial record describes him as an accountant.
Any information about the family would be welcome.
