the LANG family
I have been researching the lives of two significant shipwrights/naval architects, Oliver Lang and his son Oliver William Lang. Although they worked most of their lives in government dockyards in the east of England, I am fairly sure they came from South Devon around Plymouth and Devonport. There seem to have been men called Oliver Lang in that region at least back to the 17th century. Other Langs from the area had long-standing connections with the sea and the RN. I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has information on this very significant sea-faring family.
