Bedale 1850's - Gower family
Hi, my Gower ancestor Stephen Gower was born in Old Windsor 1823, Berks, and lived in Lambeth, moved to Bedale sometime after the Q1 1854 (after the birth of his son) and was in Bedale for the birth of his second child Lydia Ann Gower born Q4 1855. He later moved with his family to Leeds (sometime between Q4 1855 - Q3 1857). He was a Currier and Front boot blocker. I would like to ascertain why he moved to Bedale in the mid 1800's. Work is a possibility, but I would have thought work would have been plentiful in London where he was based. To move to a small market town in the dales, rather than another large town seems a bit strange. Did he have previous family connections to this area, and that is why he was drawn to it? If anyone has any information or ideas, I would love to hear them.
Regards Mandy
