Here Come the Glasgow Keelies
Lorne A Wallace collected info and compiled this book. Concentrated on Dunning Evacuees who came from Glasgow Sept 1st 1939. I was evacuated from Carnoustie St School on 1st Sept 1939.
My brother and I and many others were taken to Kilbirnie in Ayrshire, not to Dunning. The picture on front cover of this book looks very familiar, in that I believe I remember it being taken whilst I was in the line up at the Railway station in Glasgow.
I see a child who could be myself, then Mary Meek, and the girl who was billeted with me...May Nicols..Her brother John at the back of the picture, along with my brother Archie. Would like to confirm this info, with the person who maintains this picture was taken at Dunning Railway station. I am 78, and wish to relate my own story before I pass on. I was given this book as a present from a friend in Glasgow. Would like to say that not all the children went to Dunning. I believe there were too many and the group was split. Would like a reply on this matter if possible very soon.
