I am researching the name LATHAM, which I have traced to the early 1800's - I think! Knowing that the Latham name was prominent in that era, I was troubled to discover that there was two branches of the family, with a recurring firstname (but spelled slightly differently) in both.
The first spelling is COLTON and the other is COULTON.
Other clues are similarly vague: marriages with ELIZABETH's and SARAH's make the task more difficult.
If there is anyone who can set me on the correct path, it would be very much appreciated.
