O'Brien - Brien family
In classic Ancestry style the O' has been omitted from a 1871 census entry for my GG Grandfather William O'Brien b 1831 in Dublin, Ireland and married to Ellen (surname unknown) b 1830 also in Ireland. He gets listed as William O Brien. The O' seems to get missed off from a lot of names so that O'Donnell becomes O Donnell etc. We wondered whether the Irish families in Liverpool considered it prudent to drop the O' in light of some prejudices? Proper historians out there may know more about this. Our William married Ellen and had William b1856 in Liverpool and Ann b1860 also in Liverpool. Ann married a David Morris and they had a daughter b1880. William jnr married Mary Ann Spence in 1881 and they had children Edith b1888 (my Grandmother), Ann b 1881, Mary E b1882, Sarah b 1884, William b 1890, Grace b 1894, Alex b1901 and Gloria. We know Grace remained unmarried and lived with Edith and her husband Timothy Evans. Sarah married a William Kophammel. William married Selina Williams but the other siblings are a mystery. Anything you can add to this would be appreciated.
