1841 Census Thomas DEACON (Horsebreaker)was living at STAR LANE, with his wife Elizabeth and 8 children. The eldest daughter SARAH was my Gt.Gt.Grandmother, born in Denchworth about 1826. She is not at Star Lane in 1851 Census but found again in 1861 living in London as a widow, with children, named "COANDE" which I suspect is an anagram of DEACON. I would love to trace her "missing years" between 1841-1861. I would also be pleased to get info on any of her siblings, particularly her sister SELINA b.about 1829 and her brother WILLIAM b.1836 who appears in 1881 Census as "Inn Keeper" at the Ray Mead Hotel, Cookham and in 1891 Census as "Hotel Proprietor of the East Arms Hotel, HURLEY. The rest of Sarah's siblings were:George, Hester, Anna, Charles, Martha, Ruth, James & Joseph. Many thanks for any help, Sylvia.

I am researching my mother's family and know that my Gt.Gt.Grandmother Sarah's maiden name was DEACON b.circa1826 in Denchworth, Berks. I have "lost" her between the 1841 Census, living in Hurley with her parents & siblings;& 1861 Census living in Bishopsgate, London as Sarah Coande, widow with 4 children. For various reasons I believe Coande to be a ficticious name, an anagram of Deacon. Although it could be Irish (linked to Cowan?);my mother and aunt said there "was suppose to be Irish in the family" although they knew no details.
I have gone back further with the Deacons & I know a fair amount about Sarah's children and her death but l want to know what happened to her between 1841-1861. Also never found birth registration or baptism for her first 2 children, Mary Jane and Selina Ann.
I am very much an enthusiastic novice researcher, helped by an experienced friend who has had family history as her main pastime for 25 years. I have always been interested in history and try to put the facts we find into the context of social conditions and attitudes of their era. So I have have occasional "flashes of inspiration" (wild ideas!) and my friend usually proves them wrong OR sometimes we get a breakthrough.
If anyone can shed light on the mysterious Sarah - & completely elusive "husband" - I would be delighted! Thank you. Sylvia.
