Brunton, Tait, Lindsay/Lindsey families in Midlothian
My 4g grandmother Janet Brunton was born in Heriot 19 April 1778 to Thomas Brunton, shepherd at Braid, and Helen (Nelly) Lindsay (or Lindsey) (who married in Heriot 1 Jul 1774); on the 15th Oct 1803, in Borthwick, Janet Brunton married Thomas Tait (shepherd, hind, ag lab) b. Heriot 8 Aug 1784. Janet Brunton had a brother James (b. Heriot 19 Sept 1776) and two sisters, Nelly (b. Heriot 24 Jun 1781) and Lillias (b. Edinburgh 23 Feb 1792). Lillias married William Thomson (b. abt 1790, Kirkurd, Peebles); their 3 children, Thomas, Helen and Robert, were born in Cockpen, Midlothian. I'd be interested to contact, and share information with, anyone who knows anything about James or Nelly, or is researching these families. Does anyone know anything about Heriot at this period?
