40 High Street, Rochester
My paternal grandfather, Charles George Smith, was born at 40 High Street, Rochester in 1881. This is now the Nat West Bank but we think it may have been a public house at one time. Does anyone know any details about this building? My grandfather's birth certificate shows his father as Charles Smith and his mother as Elizabeth Smith formerly Knight and the 1881 census shows Charles as a boiler maker and beer retailer and also shows some lodgers, a father and son both called William Baldwin and born in Rochester and a William Currie born in Ireland.
