Peter (Patrick) Ewing and Elizabeth Lindsay
Am looking for information on Peter Ewing (born about 1779) - possibly the son of Peter Ewing and Ann Cook of Bonhill, or Archibald Ewing and Catharine Nielson of Paisley. I believe Peter married Elizabeth Lindsay in Dumbarton on 11/02/1815. The OPR marriage record actually records Peter as Patrick, but I'm fairly sure this was an error, as Peter (not Patrick) and Elizabeth had two children (James Ewing 1816 and William Ewing 1817) and elements of the family were recorded at the 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses. It is likely that Peter Ewing died prior to the 1851 census, while Elizabeth died 8/10/1863. It seems likely that James Ewing never married, but William Ewing married Helen Sweeney in Dumbarton on 17/03/1839 and they had 8 children (Agnes, Peter, Helen, John, Mary, Catherine, William and James).
As Peter Ewing would have been aged about 36 when he married Elizabeth Lindsay he may have had a prior marriage, possibly to a Janet Ferrier of Cardross.
