Towers-Smith
George Towers married Annie Smith, don't know where, don't know when. In 1871 they were living in Framwellgate, Durham with their first three children, William b. Wrekenton, nr Gateshead, c1863, Margaret b. Newcastle, Northumberland, c1865, and Mary Ellen b. Sunderland, County Durham .c1869. In 1881 they were living in 2 Catleap Stairs Wapping Street, South Shields, with children, William, Margaret, Mary Ellen, Annie, b. South Shields, 1876, Thomas, b. South Shields, 1879. Agnes came along in 1881, All the chidren were said to be born in South Shields. I cannot find birth registration for William, Margaret or Mary Ellen. Annie, Thomas and Agnes were all registered in South Shields. According to the 1871 and 1881 census, Annie Smith was born in Scarborough, and George Towers was born in Blackburn. I cannot find anything to confirm these places of birth. In 1871 George said he was 30 years, Annie said she was 26 years. In 1881, george said he was 44 and annie said she was 39. Annie remarried as a Widow, in 1890 to a Thomas Higgins, she said she was 40. If there is anyone out there who might be able to help I would love to hear from them.
