Various spellings incl: BARAGWANNA BARAGWANETH BARGUENNA.
The family probably originated from further N-W. Name first appears in GWENNAP as George BARGWANNA (b c1740 - not found) marr Sarah GREGOR (b jun 1748 to Henry and Sarah GREGOR) at Gwennap on15 Nov 1766, both said to be of Parish. They had 16 chn who established the family name in GWENNAP and married into KEMP, BARRETT, SCOBLE, BUNT, GOLDSWORTHY, STEPHENS, RICHARDS, WILLS, TEAGUE and SKEWES families in early c19th.
A death of a WilliamBARGWANNA recorded in Gwennap might be a father / relative .
George & Sarah's son Thomas BARGWANNA b 1778 Gwennap m Elizabeth BARRETT in 1800 at Gwennap and their son James b 1818 Gwennap marr Caroline JEWRY in 1840 at Redruth. They emigratedto Australia 1849 with their children.
