Burnley, Lancashire

Shackleton- Burnley
My Gt.Gt.grandfather Mitchell Shackleton b.c. 1817 was born at Briercliffe,Burnley, Lanc's ( Father was Joseph Shackleton who married Mitchell's mother, Sarah Nuttall ). Mitchell married Sarah Smith( also known as Elizabeth) in 1842 and had 8 children, the eldest being Benjamin, my Gt grandfather b.c.1843. He became a Police Constable and on moving to Bolton, inorder to help with a murder enquiry, he was promoted to sergeant. Benjamin married Mary Dawson and went on to have six children, the youngest being my Grandmother Mary b.c. 1883. I would love to hear from any of the descendants of the above especially as the Shackleton name appeared to be less common in the Burnley area, in the mid- 1800's, than in Yorkshire.
