|NELSON or NEILSON - (Edinburgh - Midlothian)
Anyone else researching NELSON or NEILSON, I would like to know more about my gt gt grandmother EUPHEMIA NELSON the surname was that used on the document for her marriage to JOHN GRANT in 1841, her name however after that was gven as NEILSON so I do not really know which is the "correct" spelling, but of course if other facts fit then its possible to knw if I am on the right trail.
Her father was given as GEORGE NELSON and that is all the information I have about her early days, I do not really know her correct date of birth either, different ages being given on the various census & certificates, but I don`t think they knew or cared, what their birth date really was, anyway, calculated on the various documents I assume she was born about 1820 give or take a couple of years either side, she appears to have remained in the same area for all her life, St Cuthberts Edinburgh, it I can only trace two children, one my gt grandfather George Nelson Grant b.1841 shortly after her marriage another son John Peter baptised in 1844, then when she remarried in 1861, she had another son Robert Martin in 1862, for those days that was a small family, of xourse she may have had others that did not live or miscarriages its difficult to know.
However, if anyone else has found her in their reseach, would you please contact me to share information, thank you.

|GUTHRIE - (Edinburgh - Midlothian)
i am looking for information/descendants on/of William Robertson Guthrie. said to be born in Edinburgh abt 1888.....we were told his D.O.B. was 5th march.....he served in the navy, sometime in the early 1900's....i have a picture of him in his uniform. The name of ths ship he served on was the HMS Shannon. The HMS Shannon served at the Battle of Jutland....i cannot find a list of crew for this ship, but i do know it was an armoured cruiser and it was commissioned in 1905....put into service in 1908 at Chatham, Kent, and decomissioned and sold for scrap in 1922. There is a story that he jumped ship, how true? i dont know.
William married Mary Bisop nee Austin in 1935, they were living at 81 Campbell Rd, Islington, London. They actually got together in 1922, and had a few kids before they were married and a few more after. Their only son was born in 1926, at 79, Campbell rd, Islington. I was told he was married before he married Mary, and had a couple of sons to his first marriage, but i dont know how true this is. I have no details on the first wife, but was told the 2 sons were called Billy and Bobby, one was blind, and both boys emigrated to New Zealand, with their mother when they were small. After leaving the navy William had his own business as a steeple jack. He names his father as James Guthrie, steeple jack, on his marriage certificate. I would appreciate any info that anyone could possibly have or find.

|Rutherford in Edinburgh - can you help? - (Edinburgh - Midlothian)
Currently researching my mother's family, in particular the Rutherfords. My grandfather was William Wallace Rutherford, born 1920 in Hull. His father was Robert Henry Rutherford, born 1875 in Hull, married Florence Henrietta Govier 1919 in Hull. Robert Henry's father was William Rutherford, born 1846 in Edinburgh, apprenticed in 1864. The family story is that William abandoned his apprenticeship and was smugled out of Edinburgh to Glasgow where he boarded a ship to Hull. That is all the detail I know so far, but I'm working on it. His parents were William Rutherford and Sophia Probert? (spelling may be wrong there). Does any of this sound familiar? Can anyone help me add more details and find my Edinburgh roots?
