Stirk families of Kildwick - (High Bradley - Yorkshire, West Riding)
I am looking for any information regarding the pedigree of George Stirk, born about the mid 1700s and died in 1779. He married Mary Lund (1749 - 1783) on 24th April 1775 in Kildwick. They had two children; Henry (1775 - 1849) and Mary (1779 - 1783). I believe they lived in the Bradley/Silsden Moor area. George is the only gap in my research, so any input would be greatly appreciated.

BRAMBLE = REED - (High Melton - Yorkshire, West Riding)
Reuben BRAMBLE was a private coachman who was at High Melton. (possibly the big house) in the 1890's. His daughter married there to a man named REED or READ. Later they are found at Doncaster where they had a wine and beer business.At Doncaster Reuben, possibly because of advancing years was at one time the driver of a horse drawn bus.Infomation gratefully received.
Charlie Edward Fisher, my grandfather was born in High Melton in 1888. His father Henry Fisher b 1866 from Mexborough was a game keeper for the estate. Any information about Charlie Fisher's sisters and brothers greatly appreciated. Charlie Fisher joined the arm and was sent to Hampshire during the 1st World War and met and married E M Martin. They moved to Hertfordshire where he continued work as a Game Keeper until he retired.

Does anyone have any information with regard to the Mitchell 20? The parents were Ira Mitchell (Born 15/09/1844) and Amelia (Cooke I think (Born 28/11/1847)). I have a full list of the 20 children that they had starting in 1867 and ending in 1890. My great grandfather was Richard Cooke Mitchell (born 18/03/1872)and I would love to find further information about Ira and Amelia and also what happened to the other 19 children. They had six children :- Thomas, born circa 1862, William Francis born circa 1864, Cyrus/Sirius born circa 1865, Elizabeth born circa 1869, Peter born circa 1871 and George W born circa 1876. All children were born in Ferrybridge, and baptised in Knottingley, Yorkshire. John Shaw was born ab. 1867 in Belper, Derbyshire, but by the time he was 13 was living in Hoyle Mill, Ardsley. His father was Samuel Shaw, born ab. 1846 and mother Sarah-Ann, born ab. 1846. John married Eliza Harriman (born ab. 1872) in 1892 and hadat least 9 children (although family hearsay suggests up to 13 children). Those known are Ruth Harriman (1890), John Shaw (1892), Elizabeth Shaw (1894), William H Shaw (1896), Samuel H Shaw (1898), George W Shaw (1901), Richard William Shaw (1902),Friend Shaw (1909) and Walter Shaw (approx 1902-09). Elizabeth Shaw (Besse) was known to have moved to Bridlington and run a guesthouse, and had at least one daughter called Lillian who also ran a guesthouse in Bridlington. Friend Shaw had no children and died in 1988. Richard W. Shaw had 5 children, Florence (1932), John (1934), Ruth, Jean (1941) and William (1942). Any knowledge of the family, or clarification on dates would be much appreciated.

Herbert Arthur Strafford b 1880 - (Huby - Yorkshire, West Riding)
Does anyone have any information or memories of this great uncle of mine and his wife Alice? Herbert worked in his father James Strafford's printworks in Leeds and he and Alice moved from Leeds to Huby in the 1920s. The printworks closed in 1941. Herbert was still living in Huby at Gatecliffe, Holly Park in 1947. I would also love to know if they had any children.

I'm trying to find out details of my Mums's uncle and father, born whilst living at Lily View, Church Street, Jump, Wombwell. Born in 1905. Selvanus was my Grandad's twin (Harry, he died in 1967). His mothers name was Clara Galsworthy (born Crediton, Devon) and father was Harry Willis. The only details on Selvanus are his birth certifiacte. I have no idea if he went off to war and didn't return, we have no knowledge of him and there are no death records that I can find. I wondered if there was a list of names from memorials in the area or if anybody has any ideas or information. Or perhaps where else I could go for information? Was this address a house or part of the hospital (Their mother was a nurse). I wonder why else she would move from Devon unless her husband was born in Yorkshire, I have no details on him at all. John Stoney died abt 1690 in Kettlewell or Rilston. He married Isabell of Rilston, where she was later buried on 1st Mar 1690. Their son, George (born 1654/59 Kettlewell) married Mary Moorhouse of Rilston on 6 Jan 1675 and settled there. They had nine children. When he was widowed, he moved to Co. Tipperary where his son, Thomas had settled. I would be most grateful if anyone knows more about this branch of the Stoney family.

Harrogate Advertiser - 25th May 1963. Two photos - An old feature of Nidderdale is disappearing. The old Killinghall mill, on the bank of the river Nidd near the bridge at Ripley is being demolished. Until recently part of Ripley Castle Estate, the mill has been bought by Mr James Dalton, of Rigton Gates Farm, North Rigton. He is pulling it down because parts of the building were dangerous. It has not been used for a number of years. Mr Dalton does not yet know what he is going to do with the land but he has killed the rumour that the site might be used for a café or hotel. "I have no intent of desecrating the countryside", Mr Dalton told a staff reporter on Monday. "I am pulling the mill down because it is very dangerous for children". He thought he might build a house there. For more than 150 years the mill was engaged in the manufacture of shuttles for both hand and power looms in the woollen and worsted industries. It was founded by Mr William Mitchell who invented and patented a new type of shuttle. after his death the business was carried on by his two sons, Messrs F and W Mitchell, until they retired in 1917. Born 1834 nr Scotton, William Tippey was a joiner and builder in Killinghall apprenticed to William Richardson, master carpenter of Providence House about 1850. He settled there and the census and trade directories show him working as a joiner and builder in the district. He was buried near the door of Killinghall church in 1895. Can anyone offer any extra details about his business and where he lived?
