Her brother Jack worked on the local farm and built up a herd of cows over the years. When he died they were gifted to the farmer.Jack never married. My Granmothers father was called John Hepworth and he married twice. His first wife we think was called ann and she died when she was only 21. The President of the Institution occupied the chair, and after a brief introductory speech, called upon the secretary to read the Report, which adduced much encouraging detail of the progress of the classes and other departments during the past year, the library already comprising more than 400 volumes of books. John Emmott, Esq. of Birkenshaw, and several members of the society addressed the meeting. Theroom was tastefully decorated with evergreens, interspersed with very appropriate mottoes, and by the aid of an excellent choir at intervals, the proceedings were enlivened by the performances of portions of sacred music, an anthem and Christmas hymn; the whole passing off with evident satisfaction, pleasure, and profit of all present.

JOS. THOMPSON, WHITLEY BRIDGE This deceased, who had entered upon his 73rd year, was well known and esteemed in his own neighbourhood, as well as in Pontefract and other places. Mr. Thompson was a native of Womersley, where for a considerable period he was a joiner and wheelwright on the Womersley estate of the late Lord Hawke. Some 34 years ago (1870), he moved to Whitley Bridge, where he carried on the business of a grocer. Until about five yers back he was for a long time Overseer of the Poor. Other public offices he did not seek. In religion he was a Wesleyan. Although not one of the strongest of men the deceased had good health as a rule; indeed, he suffered little, except from influenza, until some five years ago, when he was not so well. Since last Christmas he failed somewhat, and latterly he was far from strong. Seven or eight weeks ago a medical man was called in but later he improved, and as lately as Wednesday last, he was thought to be mending still. On Thursday, however, a serious change took place and death ensued from apoplexy. Mr. Thompson leaves a widow and one son (Mr. John Percy Thompson, of Pontefract, traveller for Ald. Wordsworth, J.P.) and one daughter (Miss Thompson of Whitley Bridge). The interment takes place today (Saturday) at Kellington Church.
