red mail Field &/or Barber families
I believe the 'Fields' were bigshots in this village from about 1560. The English Civil war has messed up the records, but a gravestone at St.Mary's indicates an ancestor of mine Joshua Field who was born 1681. I am also very interested in family of Mary Barber who married Thomas Field 21 Jan 1771 at Woodkirk. All comms acknowledged.

red mail Auty Family
The Auty Family has changed over the years with its spelling. The earliest spelling Outi, Oty and Otty”came from the Scandinavian countries ex: - Norway around time of 1066. The year 1066 is when William the Conqueror, conquered England and the Ottys came to England and made their way North. The Autys then moved down through France where the spelling changed to Aulti - 1177, Auti - 1200 A.D. plus Anty,Autie and Auttie in which no special date was given. Awty 1524. These are just some of the spellings, which other researches have found. 1864 French Protestant registers commenced in London. Reference Genealogical Reseach in England and Wales Vol. 2 page 189 by Smith and Gardner. The Huguenots in the year 1685, Revocation of the Edilt of Nantes drove thousands of Protestants (Huguenots) out of France. Many settled in England, so another group of Autys came with the Huguenots to England. Many who decided to move north to Yorkshire and the Midlands. The spelling appeared in many ways mainly because people could not spell. Even today Auty is still not correctly spelt in England as you change your region. Example when I (Russell) first moved to London in 1958, if I told them my name was Auty they would pronounce it " Oty". This went on for many years and still does. Researcher R.P.Auty
