My great grandmother Sarah Foster was born in Thorne in1843.In 1864 she was unmarried & living in Epworth where her Son Samuel Driffield Foster was born. In 1874 she married Matthias Glew.In Oct 1874 she gave birth to twin daughters, Alice & Annie. Alice died when a few months old. Annie grew up & became my grand mother.I would be grateful for any information about the Foster family from Thorne. Thanks Sue.

Mary Moate born 1815 in Thorne, moved I believe to Hull sometime late 1830's/early 1840's. Her father was John and I think her mother was Mary. I think John died 1850 but not sure. Mary married Tindell Suggitt/Suggett on 6th. January, 1845 in Holy Trinity Church Hull. She has disappeared in the 1851 census. Tindell and Mary had split up almost within a year of marriage as Tindell was in another relationship. Can anyone help? I've found this area of my research most difficult.

My grandmother Ethel Todd was born in 1883 to William Palmer Todd (master waterman)and Annie Elizabeth Sutton (born of George Sutton and Sarah Smith). She appears to have had a number of brothers and sisters , William Todd (b 1887) Minnie Todd, b1891 (who married Edmund Thorley), Edward Todd, b 1894 ( who married Laura Pepper), Sarah Todd b1897 (who married John Vaux), Charles Todd b 1900. All born Thorne except Wiiliam Palmer Todd who was born in Keadby. Interested to hear from any descendants.

Can anyone help me regarding the Cawkell family from Thorne. Originally I was looking for an Elizabeth Cawkell born c 1760. I believed her to be the daughter ofWilliam Cawkwell and Ann Ossitt who married Samuel Hill 26 June 1782. However, I then found that this Elizabeth died aged 4 months. The marriage record says that Samuel Hill married Elizabeth Cawkwell in Thorne, so who is she. I thought it possible that she could have been an Elizabeth Cawkwell from Gainsborough Lincolnshire as the Cawkwells came from that area before settling in Thorne. Can anyone help?

Can anybody help me with any info regarding my half sisters,whos birth names were Eileen Allison born about 1941 and Audrey Allison born in 1942. In the middle of the 19th Century they were primarily working the waterways and canals. Looking for any record of children born to Sarah Fowlston, b. 1798 in Doncaster, and James Breasley,b.1782 in Thorne. They were married Aug 1819 in Doncaster. They appear in the 1851 census living with her brother Charles and his family in Thorne. I have been unable to find they had any children. Sarah had another brother William who also ended up in Thorne.
WALKER Robert
I am beginning a new line with this branch. Robert WALKER was born 14 June 1880 at Thorne. He worked as a hawker in the mid - late 1890's and joined the Royal Navy at Chatham, Kent as a stoker in 1899. He was stationed at Fareham in 1909 when he met his future wife Ellen MEAD. He died at sea within the first few days of WW1. His birth certificate gives his mother's name as ALICE WALKER - no father named. I also have his marriage cert to Ellen MEAD at Fareham, Hampshire and copies of his service records. If you recognise Robert, please get in touch. I am happy to share what details I have so far.
